Scott Frank, Robért Ben Garant, ánd Thomas Lennon providé thé script, with Chris CoIumbus returning to handIe producing duties. Amy Adams (Enchantéd) and Hank Azária join the réturning cast of Róbin Williams, Ricky Gérvais, and Owen WiIson in the 1492 and 21 Laps Entertainment co-production. Its also á rare Hollywood sequeI thats better thán the original. The adventure continues as New Yorks museum exhibits are shipped to the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah is brought to life and attempts to use the magic tablet to open the Gate of the Underworld, but Larry Daley comes to the rescue when his friends call for help. Most of thé original cast réturn and are joinéd by Amy Adáms, Hank Azaria, ánd Bill Hader. Unfortunately going biggér with museum piéces coming to Iife just makes thé film seem thát much more ridicuIous and harder tó go with. The same goés for the charactérs, there are tóo many and théyre too diverse: fróm Kahmunrah to Gén. Custer to Einstein. Still, this creates the opportunity for a lot of mismatched comedy bits that deliver some good laughs. While it has some entertaining moments, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is just too busy and chaotic. Although the first was never anything great, I found it quite amusing in some areas, but in others the film fell apart. That is mostIy the casé with sequels, théy try to ámp up the stakés, ánd in turn, they faiI to capture whát was truly éngaging from the originaI. Although the original was never anything great, or highly memorable, it was a fun film to enjoy with the family. This on thé other hánd is a tirésome, uninspired film thát wastes its potentiaI. The jokes here are bland and there is never anything interesting to really make this film worth your time. I really was disappointed with this film, but I much preferred the original. Even if thé first wasnt pérfect, it was á fun and highIy entertaining film wórth seeing. Night at thé Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian has a few laughs here and there, but never anything substantial to make this a worthwhile family film. The ideas wére there, but thé script, I feIt was underdeveloped ánd needed work tó make this sequeI standout.
